Rowers of all ages emerged from winter hibernation Saturday to compete in the Connecticut Indoor Rowing championships at St. Ann's School in Bridgeport. The athletes rowed 2,000 meters on ergometers. Viewers monitored the race on a large-screen television, which showed the position of each rower, how far he or she had gone and what remained.

Teams from Maritime Rowing Club, Connecticut Boat Club, Sono Rowing and Norwalk River Rowing Association in Norwalk; Saugatuck Rowing Club in Westport; and high school athletes from Greenwich High, Brunswick, Convent of the Sacred Heart and Fairfield Prep took part. Saugatuck Rowing Club hosted the event, which featured Masters athletes as well, including 87-year-old Paul Green. The Westport man credits rowing and vigorous exercise with helping him stave off the debilitating effects of Parkinson's disease.
