NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk’s Claire Turner and Adam Robertino and Brien McMahon’s Shelly Lindo won individual races Thursday night at the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference indoor track and field championships at the Floyd Little Athletic Complex in New Haven.

Turner’s victory in the 600 was one of the surprises of the meet. The sophomore ran 1:38.21, a school record and nearly three seconds better than her personal best. She edged Greenwich’s Elizabeth Markowitz by .29 seconds. Turner’s winning effort was nearly six seconds better than her time in last week’s Central Division championships.

While the league title was the first for Turner, they have become routine for Robertino, who captured his third straight title in the 55 meter hurdles. He won in 7.78 and by 0.2 of a second, an eternity in so short a race. His time is the best in the state this year and among the top 10 in the country, according to a national website that monitors track and field performances.

Lindo’s performance in the 55 meter dash was similarly impressive. She won in 7.22, the best time in the state this winter and 54th in the nation. Lindo was also second in the 55 hurdles, a step ahead of teammate Sarah Boyd. Norwalk’s Crystle Hill finished fourth in the 55 meter dash.

Norwalk’s boys finished sixth with 25 points, and Brien McMahon was 12th with 14. Staples won the team title. In the girls competition, McMahon took fifth with 36, and Norwalk was 10th with 18. Greenwich won its first title since 1980. Complete results are available online.
