A group of Norwalkers are taking a road trip to Maryland today to check out Susan Marks, the finalist candidate for superintendent.  Board of Education members Erin Halsey and Susan Hamilton, Ivette Ellis, principal of Silvermine elementary, Susan Daignault, a teacher at Naramake Elementary and Catherine Williams, a parent, boarded the 11 a.m. Amtrak train to Montgomery County, Maryland, where Marks is the Community Superintendent of Human Resources.

For the next day and half, the group will meet principals, human resource staff (who report directly to Marks), parents and community members, the superintendent, the Board of Education and union leadership.  The schedule of meetings was planned by Marks, herself.
“We want to see how Dr. Marks operates on her own turf,” says Hamilton.  “I am particularly interested to see how she works with her team.  We need a team builder in Norwalk.”  Hamilton says the group will ask questions based on feedback forms collected at the community meeting during Marks' visit here.  “This is not a stroking event. We will ask good questions.”

The group returns Thursday evening and will share their findings with the public at the next BOE meeting.
