Stacy Lore appeared in Connecticut Superior Court on Wednesday and pled “not guilty” to all charges.

Lore stands accused of falsifying her resume and presenting herself as a certified autism therapist. Documents reveal she collected hundreds of thousands of dollars from school districts in Fairfield County, including Norwalk. After a year-long investigation, the Norwalk Police Department arrested Lore in March and charged her with larceny, forgery and criminal impersonation.

“To hear her say ‘not guilty’ was creepy,” said Kimberly Graham, the mother of one of the children affected by the case. “I know this is the way the court system works but she left such a paper trail.”

Graham and other parents held a press conference before the arraignment to call attention to a bill before the Connecticut Assembly that would establish professional credentials for anyone who teaches or provides therapy to children with autism. Currently, the state has no minimum standards.

The parents also thanked Det. David Orr of the Norwalk Police Department who led the investigation and State Sen. Bob Duff, whom they credit with taking an interest in their case from the beginning and who is now supporting the proposed legislation.

“I give the parents a lot of credit for continuing to push on this,” said Duff. “If it were not for their effort, Stacy Lore would not be in prison now. Justice needs to be served and justice will be served.”
