NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk man was pronounced dead Friday night at Norwalk Hospital after at least three shots were fired at him behind a Norwalk apartment building in the city's first homicide of 2012, police say.

Joseph Bateman, 20, was next to the rapids of the Norwalk River when he was fatally shot, on a walkway behind the Avalon Gates Apartments at 26 Belden Ave.

NORWALK, Conn. – A woman accused of causing a three-car collision on Interstate 95 in Norwalk on Wednesday was being followed by Norwalk police before she got on the highway, Mayor Richard Moccia said. FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – U.S. Rep. Jim Himes and more than 100 other members of Congress have sent a letter to President Barack Obama supporting his threat to veto legislation that would overturn scheduled defense cuts.

NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk man was arrested at Norwalk Superior Court Thursday after a court worker saw him hit a woman across the street, Sgt. Lisa Cotto said.

Kashif Bullock, 21, of 25 Chapel St., was arrested in January after he was accused of threatening to kill a teenager. He was at the courthouse Thursday for an appearance and went to get food at the McDonald's across the street, Cotto said. NORWALK, Conn. – A Tennessee man has been arrested in connection with the rape of a local teen in Norwalk last week, Norwalk Police say. The 15-year-old girl said no, but Rhett Hughes, 18, had sexual intercourse with her, Sgt. Lisa Cotto said. She had bruises when she was examined Wednesday. He was arrested Thursday night.

NORWALK, Conn. – Smoke inhalation and burns caused the death of a 62-year-old Norwalk woman pulled by firefighters from a Tuesday morning blaze at a Maple Street condominium complex.

Those are the results of an autopsy conducted Thursday by the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington.

Judy O’Brien, 62, died Thursday from injuries sustained during a fire at the Sheffield Ridge Condominium complex, located at 45 Maple St. near Norwalk Hospital. The fire started at 4:19 a.m.
