At our Lions meeting tonight (Perham Lakes Lions, Perham, MN), we were blessed with a speaker who gave us information on this great and worthy cause. I was taken aback on just how many vets do not take advantage of this and also learned the reason(s) why. I hope many, many more service men and women will find they aren't alone. God Bless each of you!

a great organization run by great people. Honored to know them and help them!

webster58:

Project New Hope is an organization of caring individuals who understand that for a combat veteran and their family, wartime doesn’t end the day the soldiers come home. The effects of combat service are often felt throughout a soldier’s entire lifetime, and can have an impact on each family member as well, often in ways that may be quite subtle, or hidden from view. Please Register & Vote for our “Veterans” Project New Hope each day @ http://www.thedailyleicester.com/promotion/wwl/centralmass

As a 501 C 3 Public non-profit organization, that has just begun 12 months ago, Project New Hope is financially self-sufficient. Project New Hope raises funds to support all aspects of our weekend retreats for combat veterans and their families. Our primary focus is the wellbeing of our veterans and their families who have given so much to our country that allows others and organizations to do what they do, we are the 1% who has served our country in the Armed Forces.

The mission of Project New Hope is to provide veterans from all wars, and their families, with 3 day accommodations at a wilderness retreat, where we facilitate workshops to learn and practice coping and communication skills, and relationship building to deal with the everyday stress of work, or lack of it, family life, and the complexity of returning to civilian life. We are finishing our first year of operations with remarkable results 2011and winning this promotional prize would allow us to serve more veterans returning home from IRAQ and other theatre of operations around the world. As we turn from the season of giving thanks to the festivities of the holidays, let us take a moment not only to honor those who serve and their families but also to consider through (Project New Hope) how we might actively participate in the reintegration of these honorable men and women as they return to our communities through our weekend retreats

Project New Hope:

Today, you can vote for your favorite not-for-profit organization to win a grand prize of $5,000 @ TheDailyLeicester.com this is a wonderful opportunity to show support.

Our men and women in uniform have been waging war in Afghanistan and Iraq for more than a decade along with their fellow Veterans from previous wars and conflicts, their families have absorbed the impact of these conflicts--the multiple deployments, the physical and invisible injuries that result. We must remember that for some of them this war and those of past wars will not be over. The trauma of war can linger, and the transition back home for some will not be easy.

As we turn from the season of giving thanks to the festivities of the holidays, let us take a moment not only to honor those who serve and their families but also to consider how we might actively participate in the reintegration of these honorable men and women as they return to our communities.

Here’s how the promotion works:

All 501(c) (3) organizations based in – and serving – our territory covered by a Main Street Connect news site will be able to register and rally their supporters to vote for our organization until January 15, 2012. The organization that has received the most votes by January 15 will receive $5,000. Five runner-up organizations will each earn $500. You can come back and vote once every day for your favorite organization in Winter Wish List. You can even vote for a different organization every day.

When you get to the site, click on "Winter Wish List - Gaudette Insurance”, then go to "Check out the Contest" - register to vote and then select the Project New Hope option and send a vote our way!

Winning this money would allow us to increase the amount of weekend retreats we can offer to our Gold Star, Single, Married Veterans and their families - how great would that be?

So - forward this to your contact list and let's bombard them with votes! It's a win-win for all!

MSG4864:

Our women and men veterans along with their families and friends need out vote, let's give back in anyway we can. Sincerely, Will and Olga and Sofie.

No matter which era a soldier served in – Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan – it doesn’t matter at Project New Hope. All U.S. wartime veterans and their families are welcome. There is no charge associated with Project New Hope.

• One in 10 veterans is disabled, oftentimes by injuries sustained in combat.
• The number of disabled veterans is increasing; more than 20,000 veterans were wounded during service in Iraq and Afghanistan.
• 19% of Iraq veterans report a mental health problem, and more than 11% of Afghanistan veterans.
• The incidence of PTSD and suicide rates among veterans is climbing.
• Unemployment among male Iraq and Afghanistan veterans rose from 5% in March 2007 to 15% in March 2010, according to Labor Dept. statistics as reported in USA Today.
• Number of veterans as of Sept. 2009: approximately 23 million1
• Increasing numbers of returning military personnel: according to the Mass. Dept. of Veterans’ Services, approximately 31,000 service members have returned to the Commonwealth since Sept. 11, 2001.

We hosted six weekend retreats in 2011 and will host these six retreats in 2012

1) January 13th – 15th @ Grotonwood - (Male Combat Veterans Retreat)
2) March 16th - 18th @ Grontonwood (Mass Rehab & TBI Retreat)
3) May 18th-20th Elm Hill (Gold Star Retreat)
4) July 13th – 15th Grotonwood (Single & Married Veterans Retreat)
5) September 14th – 16th Grotonwood (Single & Married Veterans Retreat)
6) October 5th – 7th Barton Center (Women Veterans Retreat)

The mission of Project New Hope is to provide veterans from all wars, and their families, with 3 day accommodations at a wilderness retreat, where we facilitate workshops to learn and practice coping and communication skills, and relationship building to deal with the everyday stress of work, or lack of it, family life, and the complexity of returning to civilian life. We are finishing our first year of operations with remarkable results. During 2011 we developed six wilderness retreats at Elm Hill, Grotonwood, and The Barton Center with an attendance of 191 veterans and their families.

Our vision is that each American veteran feels welcome at home and is best equipped with the necessary coping mechanisms and communication skills within the context of his/her own family and community, and ready to return to a productive and enjoyable life again. Only a few programs support the whole family this way.
